My Hope for You
No checklist can eliminate uncertainty.
No guide can promise good scan results.
But having a plan can replace some of the fear with preparation.
My hope is that this guide helps you feel more organized, more informed, and a little more at peace as you approach your next CT scan.
Because while none of us can control what the scan reveals, we can choose how we prepare for it.
Why I Created This Guide
When I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, CT scans quickly became a regular part of my life.
Every few months, I found myself repeating the same cycle.
Preparing for the scan.
Wondering what it would reveal.
Waiting for the results.
Reading unfamiliar medical terminology in my patient portal.
Finally meeting with my oncologist to understand what it all meant.
Over time, I realized that while I couldn’t control the results of my CT scans, I could control how I prepared for them.
I began developing a simple routine that helped me stay organized, reduce scanxiety, and approach each scan with a calmer mindset. I started writing down questions before appointments, tracking my scan results over time, and focusing on the things that were within my control instead of worrying about the things that weren’t.
As the months passed, I found myself sharing these ideas with other cancer patients. Many of them told me they experienced the same fears, the same uncertainty, and the same emotional roller coaster before every scan.
That’s when I realized I wasn’t the only one who could benefit from having a simple plan.
This guide is the resource I wish someone had given me after my cancer diagnosis.
It’s not filled with complicated medical language or unrealistic promises.
Instead, it’s a practical guide created by someone who has walked this road, someone who understands what scan week feels like because I’ve lived it.
If this guide helps you feel a little less anxious, ask one better question at your next appointment, or simply reminds you that you’re not alone, then sharing my experience has been worth it.
That has always been the mission of Wayne’s Cancer Journey:
To encourage, educate, and inspire cancer patients and caregivers by sharing real experiences, practical resources, and hope for the journey ahead.
About Wayne
Hi, I’m Wayne Schlicht.
I’m not a physician or a medical researcher. I’m a stage 4 cancer survivor who has spent years navigating the challenges of cancer treatment, recovery, recurrence, and the uncertainty that comes with every CT scan.
My journey has included:
✔ 70 radiation treatments
✔ Chemotherapy and immunotherapy
✔ A radical neck dissection
✔ A stage 4 cancer diagnosis with metastatic disease
✔ Countless CT scans, PET scans, blood tests, and oncology appointments
Like many cancer patients, I’ve experienced the fear of waiting for scan results, the anxiety of reading reports in my patient portal, and the relief that comes from finally sitting down with my oncologist to understand what the results really mean.
Along the way, I began documenting what I was learning, not only for myself, but in the hope that it might help others facing similar challenges.
That became Wayne’s Cancer Journey.
Today, I share practical resources, educational articles, downloadable guides, and personal insights to help cancer patients and caregivers navigate their journey with greater confidence, understanding, and hope.
I’m also the author of Still Here: How Faith, Food, and Family Helped Me Fight Stage 4 Cancer, where I tell the complete story of my diagnosis, treatments, setbacks, and the lessons I learned while fighting for my life.
My mission is simple:
To encourage, educate, and inspire cancer patients and caregivers by sharing real experiences, practical resources, and hope for the journey ahead.
If my journey can help even one person feel more prepared for their next appointment or a little less alone during a difficult season, then every article I’ve written and every resource I’ve created has been worthwhile.
Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your journey.
